This helps in disease prevention and wound safety. Alternatively, there are non-sterile gauze bandages that tend to be less expensive and can be used in the treatment of most small wounds, such as scrapes and small cuts.

Sponge gauze bandages are much more absorbent than the conventional type of gauze, thus making them larger in size. Packing a bleeding or drainage- full wound goes best with them as they have more capacity for absorption of the liquids and hence create a more hygiene area around.
